So cute, the birds wear beards.
Sometimes I really wonder what a bird's sense of taste is actually like. I was out of juice to use as conure bribes, so I gave Firefly a little tiny bit of lemonade. He touched it with his tongue and flipped his wings so hard in surprise that he almost went over backwards - before going straight in for more.

Also, his favorite word this week is "Weird."

And I imagine all the videos of Baby's First Lemon. And they always go back for more.

Don't some parrots go nuts for super spicy stuff, like hot peppers?

A parrot's sense of taste compared to a human's is roughly comparable to a human's sense of smell compared to a dog's. They do like EXTREEM flavors, which are probably not as extreme to them, but apparently the sourness of lemon juice is a bit off the scale. :>

And yes, some parrots do love hot peppers. Quite. (Always important to know when they've been eating such things, of course. CHILI KISSES FOR THE LOSE.)

Parrots (and birds in general) also lack the receptor that's sensitive to capsaicin (what makes hot peppers hot), so they don't taste it. :) And this is why birds are the primary seed-spreaders of pepper plants.

The first time I got Sunshine to try juice, she got so excited she snorfed juice up her nose!
