TITLE: goddesses of the moon (harry potter story)
    PERPETRATOR: somebodys15angel
    SUE-O-METER: (toxic)

    FULL NAME: Serena McGonagall.
    SPECIES: Goddess/Daughters of the moon.
HAIR: "short la-yered brown hair with blond streaks straight"
    EYES: not described
MARKINGS: a scar from where her abusive father hit her on the chin.
POSSESSIONS: "a red halter top and jean shorts". A sue-friend named Jimena a, who has a tattoo below her belly-button. A moon goddess amulet that emits energy whenever a "follower" (bad guy) is near.

ORIGIN: McGonagall's granddaughter. She comes from the States to help find Hermione and Kina the other moon goddesses. They were sent to protect the earth and have some bad guys called "Atrox" chasing after them.
CONNECTIONS TO CANON: Has some sort of grand mission regarding protecting the earth and fleeing danger. But really she is paired with Oliver Wood mostly. But it turns out that Oliver is actually the bad guy and this Stanton person is not-so-bad?
SPECIAL ABILITIES: She can read minds. Knows kung-fu.

NOTES: Glitter should never be used in this quantity: "She pulls a red satin halter out of her closet and a red skirt with gold pleads in it and she changes. She rubs gold and red glitter all over her arms and legs and chest and she puts some around her hair line and she puts gold eye shadow on and paints flames down her arms and legs and she puts gems a crossed her hair line and one on each corner of her eyes. She turns to see Kina in the doorway in a pink dress that ends just above her knees that has a bunch of layers on the bottom that comes to points in different shades of pink and purple she has pink and purple glitter all over her legs arms neck and a glitter star on her cheek and she painted vines down her arms and legs. They put their shoes on and walk out to see Hermione in a light blue satin tank top and skirt with darker blue on the bottom and a dark blue scarf tied around her neck with blue glitter all over her and some through her hair. She has blue and silver flames up her legs."

I love how Oliver defines the Sue in his dialogue. )

Seriously. You guys talk about being the top game of your genre. Stop being so friggin' clique-y. You've got players who are more than willing to play small parts, but you have to INCLUDE them.

#1 - If you want to play a canon, make them canon. Don't fudge with them, because you don't like something about their history/persona. It's NOT an AU game.

#2 Stop with the same people always being in the drama. Your character does not need to be the one shot/lost/kidnapped/tortured/etc  every single plot line. REALLY. People will still like them.   How about you let some of the other players get a little of the drama in, let them develop their characters more. The more developed and faceted a character, the more possible avenues of RP!

#3 If you just feel you aren't getting ENOUGH attention, and your character isn't feeling 'Speshul' anymore? At least make the drama workable. Not something that A) You think of and decide it'll be fun! B) Would get anyone else killed, but ohnoyerspeshul! C) makes no linear sense with your character's previous actions at all, or D) Would get any other character in serious trouble, but again you are a speshul snowflake, and you just float above it all!

#4 Pay attention to the plot's AREA. Knowing WHERE you are, and how the landscape is set up, is a good thing.

#5 Don't offer plot spots/RP up on general, and then wimp out, because you didn't get your BFF's response first. If you're only playing with one person 95% of the time or more, with a group of well over 20 players? Maybe you should make your own private RP. Just a thought. I understand having someone you like to play with a lot, someone you prefer over anyone else. *I* have someone like that. Guess what? We have our own RP on the side for that.

#6 Drama is GOOD. Drama can be FUN. OVERDRAMATIZING is bad, okay? Taking things one step over the line happens. Three giant leaps over? Shouldn't.

#7 When you ask for RP, and have it offered to you? Don't just completely wuss out and ignore the person. A polite 'No thank you, I don't think that scene would work very well." is an amazing thing. Or discuss if the person has another character that could possibly interact in a way more fitting your mood!

#8 Don't cut someone else off, who's trying to RP with you, just to go RP what you'd LIKE to be your OTP. It's rude. People besides your RP BFF have feelings too.

Just a list of simple rules to RP by.

    Hey New Players
There is a difference between cliquey players, and players who get bored and therefore stick to the people they know and trust are going to be reliable.

You can't really sit on your ass, waiting for plots and scenes to fall in your lap, and then call the rest of the cast cliquey because they aren't falling over themselves to play with you. Yes, admittedly, there should be an effort made to reach out to new players and it sucks when it doesn't happen, but at some point you've really got to meet people half-way and put yourself out there.

If people shun your attempts, then by all means, call them cliquey. But they're like spiders - they're more afraid of you than you are of them. Make an attempt first.

HOW did you manage to scare HER off?
I have to take my hat off to you, dude. Seriously.

This character of mine is the sweetest, fluffiest, most adorable person on earth. She believes in love at first sight, love conquers all, love is good in any form and she cries when someone has to kill a fucking ZOMBIE to protect her. She was betrothed to a vampire from the Nosferatu clan, despite being a Toreador, and is so fucking naive that she ran all the way from France to where she is now, JUST because she honestly believed he wanted her to. She wears pink and white in the World of Darkness, writes poetry and loves flowers.

...how the FUCK did you manage to scare her OFF?

Kudos, my friend. Kudos. Not only have you been stalking my characters, trying to get one of them- ANY of them- to sleep with yours, but you pull this new character out of your 'vault,' throw him into circulation, and instantly find a reason for him to be attracted to her.

    He had a lover. Right.

    Another Toreador. Okay.

    With blue eyes. ...

    And rose-red hair. -.-

    ...who sang...

And whose name is *remarkably* similar to my character's name.

...okay, I even understand where that's coming from. Desperately seeking an IC excuse to chase my poor, sweet, innocent little virginal vampire halfway across the city, hoping to seduce her. Gotcha. Fine. Whatever.

What *really* puzzles me is that you somehow thought telling me OOC that your character really had a 'thing' for her was going to stop the plotline she was ALREADY in. Or that you somehow thought your character telling her that she resembled the dead lover he 'can't let go of' was going to make her leap into your arms. Yes, she's so sweet she's given half the vampires on the game cavities. Does that mean she's stupid? No. No woman wants to believe she's being used as a replacement for a woman who died. Especially not when the new woman in question is already being blood-bound to another vampire, who has a much greater attraction for her than yours!!! Forcing her to dance with you, hanging onto her when she's trying to get some personal space, and tracking her back to her home... NOT the way to go, seriously.
And then you complain at me OOC when I kindly give you the heads-up that she won't be around for a while because of the plotline she'd been involved in BEFORE you showed up. ...excuse me? No. I think not. Take your libido, go buy a few toys from Eros and let the drama calm the fuck down. You are two seconds from getting slaughtered, and it won't be my character that does it. There are many other people here who are losing their patience with you, and they're more violent than she is.

(And the scary thing? This is the same person I posted about before. *facedesk* I'm too nice. I need to stop playing with this jackass.)

Thanks for the compliments on our more humble food. :) J & I can cook, but @thechickenchic treats food the way I treat words.
Posted about 7:50pm PST from TweetDeck

I can't help but feel amused as hell by this. I know Hamilton means this as a compliment, but it so, so isn't. I laughed and read that aloud to my husband who responded with, "... she feeds Hamilton like a momma bird- regurgitating crap directly into her mouth? She has only three ingredients that she uses over and over? She serves a plate full of unseasoned mashed potatoes and calls it a full, gourmet meal?"

I feel sorry for that food. It's like when I see a book that says something along the lines of "Fans of LKH will love this!" The publisher thinks they're doing the book a favor but, really... no. Just no. Seeing that, I know immediately that it will not be a good book. So far, I haven't been let down by this philosophy.

    Leather Lace
I've been working on making some home made toys for the babies and have a quick question...is the leather lace found at craft stores (ie Michaels and Hobby Lobby) something that's safe? I don't think they have any info up as to if it's treated with anything weird or not, according to the website it's Latigo Lace brand. I haven't been to the store in a while(going tomorrow) so I'm not sure on what they have exactly. Also, do they carry safe chain? Where do you get yours? windycityparrot.com? how do you cut lengths? aiee this turned into more questions than I intended!

    Thanks for any answers :)

Edit: also another unrelated question, does anyone here feed Chopper's sprouts? We just got a sample of their Superior Sprouts and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them :)

Please read my posts before replying to them.
I seem to be having an uncanny amount of sucks this month. Which is -odd-, since I'm not RPing near as much. Most of them aren't postworthy. This one is from friday, and it didn't occur to me to post it until now.

Dear person with the ditsy mage,

When I set a scene with my character five or six feet underwater (and said that in pretty much those exact words within the post as well as a lot of other underwater description)... Having your character come up and tap him on the shoulder as though the rock he's laying on is on land is a bit... Odd. The fact that your post was posted not even three minutes after mine (these are long multi-paragraph posts) makes me think that you didn't even read my post and just wrote yours ahead of time. The fact that you were confused when I asked you if she'd gone into the water with a spell so that she could talk or something just makes it even worse.

You were really embarrassed once you realized that my character wasn't even in armsreach of the surface (despite us having planned this all out the day before), but please to be reading my posts before you respond to them. It's not a race, and I was studying so it's not like I was going to reply quickly anyways.

In a fit of motivation, I really want to expand my dog/animal behavior library. I have a ton of the basics like the books by Patricia McConnell, as well as some of Karen Pryor's stuff, and some of Jean Donaldson. I'm looking for maybe things a bit more advanced. I am giving myself a 100 dollar spending limit, and I want to get the best bang for my buck, so to speak. I'm open to DVDs and books, and have been browsing Dogwise and see so many things I want. I am particularly interested in aggression/reactivity and other problem areas with dogs.

    Any advice?

anyone here have a Kosen or Steif?
I don't have any myself and I shouldn't really hoard any more, considering my pulmonary hints I shouldn't have them, I guess if I was gifted one i'll put it under glass.

anyway so I'm looking at so kosens plush and wondering how they are made. so i can make something like the bodyshape

how much stiching is there? if anyone here has them would you take some close up shots? or scan part of it?

its wrong I know, I'd hate people to trace my art work, so I shouldn't 'trace' the lines on a plush with a tradmark design.

    Film Recommendation
Sorry to be posting so much today!

I just watched a film and I wanted to pass along a recommendation before it slips through the cracks of my fractured mind. I put on the documentary "Unmistaken Child" to act as "background noise" while I worked on my homework. That didn't work. I was riveted and I watched the entire hour and 45 minute documentary before I'd realized what had happened. If you have the time or the inclination, I recommend you pick it up. What a fascinating process. Here's a trailer:

I am not sure I could give my son up, even if I believed with all my heart and soul that reincarnation was a reality AND that my child was a reincarnated Holy Lama.

I think the most fascinating part of the whole movie for me is right at the very end when he goes to the monastery and is approached by hundreds and hundreds of people seeking a blessing. This tiny child with this look of such concentration draping the scarves over their heads and touching their foreheads with his palm. I would go insane with that crush of people coming in on me, it's amazing a toddler could cope. I also find it interesting how so many brought toys as offerings. What an interesting thought process- you see a child but you also see the former Lama. He's both in their minds at the same time.

    On gender and sexuality::
Okay, look. I might have an ambiguous sexuality and gender identification. This does not mean that ALL of my characters do, as well. I like pushing boundaries, and my characters often reflect it- but do NOT try to tie my own gender into it.

Character A is asexual. He is not aromantic- he has had a relationship (with one of your characters, nonetheless) and has nearly forced himself to have sex to please them. An attempt to try and 'normalize' someone who has a differing sexuality? Or just an excuse to write more porn?

Character B is a straight male. He just happens to be a clefable (A la pokemon). A large pink fairy is bound to get mistaken for a female some time or another.

Character C was abused and decided it would be easier to live as a man. He is non-op, meaning he still has hidden girlie-bits, but lives in a masculine role. He is not a "true" transman, but lives as one anyway.

Characters D and E you never even see, why does it matter to you that they're hermaphroditic in the realm of a pure-fantasy RP?

Character F is a normal man. He just has a low libido. He has repressed memories of killing his sickly wife (props if you can tell who I speak of) and probably has supressed his sexual side for quite some time, to the point of arguably not needing it as much. (Note: AU. No monsters obsessed with rape here. :c)

In other words, lay off. You tend to say 'oh, ANOTHER?' like it's such a bad thing. I think that, when handled well, having different characters can bring some good things. Hun, we're in a lesbian relationship. We're already discriminated against- don't redirect the 'hate' towards RP characters.

It's not that you're a bad RPer, it's just... God. Some things you do get on my nerves. XD I love you, but I just needed a rant.

    Hills and veterinarians...
My vet who has been treating my cat in this other post has recommended that I eventually transfer my cat, Jack, over to a diet of Hills Science Diet which he believes is a high-quality food.

I've heard that that is something that I should be suspicious of. While I have not really seen much information about whether Hills and vets have mutually beneficial relationships, I am concerned about the lack of other recommendations by vet for other foods. He only recommends Hills and that bothers me. It seems biased, Hills can't be the only good food for cats.

My cat is currently eating (yea!) dry food. He has a small buffet of Meow Mix (junk food), Chicken Soup for Pet Lover's Soul (ok food), and Science Diet (free from the Humane Society).

The vet said I shouldn't keep him on the Chicken Soup because the company that makes the food has had a high rate of food recalls in the past.

This was only after I asked him why he only recommends Science Diet. Also after he gave me some lame explanation that Science Diet meets AAFCO standards for pet food (don't they all have to meet AAFCO standards?). He made the claim that not all pet foods meet AAFCO standards because they don't want to bother with the testing.

I just keep getting a bad feeling about this. My old vet (2.5 hours away) never recommended one type of food to me for my cats and never has had a problem with what I feed (Cal Natural, Wellness, Innova).

I can't really seems to find any unbiased information. I could really use some unbiased resources.

    And should I be suspicious?

(I really hope this post makes sense)

    ETA:

Science Diet Optimal Care Ingredients: Chicken by-product meal, ground whole grain corn, brewers rice, and animal fat (I've heard that after the fat the rest is just trace stuff). Then corn gluten meal and chicken liver flavor. Then preservatives and other additives.

Chicken Soup for Cat Lovers's Soul: chicken, chicken meal, cracked pearl barley, chicken fat, ocean fish meal, white rice, potatoes, oatmeal, millet, natural chicken flavor, salmon, turkey, duck, flaxseed, and preservatives and additives.

And the vet says Science Diet is better than the other? Sheesh.

The Cockatiel Formerly Known as Prince
I picked up my latest Mickaboo foster on Saturday - a little cockatiel. The information I had received had been very limited, prior to meeting him. I knew he had been a stray, that he had received a thorough medical evaluation and nothing had been found wrong with him, the he was a normal grey male, and that he had been named Prince, somewhere along the line. When I finally met him, I was surprised to see... well... this.

I... wait, whut? Cockatiel? Plucked? (Or, to be more accurate, barbered). Is he not the most ridiculous little cockatiel you've ever seen?

He's shy, and scared, not very good with hands. And... Prince is just not a name I'm terribly fond of, nor do I find suits him. Therefore, I've chosen to give him a name which I find far more appropriate, and... well, cuter. I've named him Squiggle, or Squig for short.

One more photo, and a close up )

I've joined the 'pickinparrots' yahoogroup, now that I have this sudden and somewhat unexpected responsibility. I'm going to try environmental enrichment/foraging type stuff, and see if that helps him keep any of that new feather growth intact (unfortunately, I'm pretty dubious. I don't think he would be so dramatically nude, as a cockatiel, if environmental enrichment alone was the problem). If it doesn't help, I plan on trying a diet restriction program to start testing for possible allergens (ie: feeding Roudybush Rice diet to see if that stops it, and then slowly introducing potential allergens to see if I can pinpoint the exact cause).

I'll also try frequent baths. I may pick up some of that 100% aloe stuff, to see if it helps at all. Any other suggestions are welcome!

    Someone help me!
So, like many of you, I know Science Diet is a poor quality food and yadda yadda. BUT, in my crazy frenzy of working full time and focusing on my own dogs and not on keeping myself up to date on dog nutrition, I've forgotten a lot of key arguing points as to WHY Science Diet (and IAMS and so on) isn't great quality... which has come up frequently at my place of work and it's hard to have a compelling argument when I go "Science Diet is gross... I just forget all the reasons..." And I've lost all my links over the years after multiple computer implosions.

So, anyone have some good links or arguments to make? Basics are good (I remember some of those) but some good scientific arguing points would be greeeat.

    Logic escapes some people.

My neighbours have a young staffy. I've posted about them here before, about how they never have him on a leash etc. Well, they got better about that. They got him a collar and tags and I've seen them (occasionally) walk him out on a leash. He still has NO leash manners whatsoever and could do with about 10x more exercise than he's getting, but it's a start...

Today I took my dogs out in the garden and ran into the guy (Chris) and had the following conversation.

C: You haven't seen a little black and white staffy anywhere have you? *wry smile*
    Me: You lost him?
C: Yeah. I had him out in the park yesterday morning and he took off. I came back here and then went out to look for him and he was by the front door. He did the same to Trish [his wife] yesterday evening. Ran away and then came back here. She let him off in the park this moning and he ran and hasn't come back. She's out looking for him.

So... Your dog runs away forom you twice and you decide the best thing to do is let it off the freaking leash!

    Logic. You doesn't have it.

Someone found him (along with another dog, apparently) and handed him into the police who phoned them up and gave him back.

Kids and Dogs, How We Learn Best, and a Question.

These two articles were recently being discussed on another training forum, I found them pretty interesting:

    Kids Misunderstand Dog's Emotions

    And a Question!

I'm looking to replace the link to Nonlinear Dogs (http://www.nonlineardogs.com/) and Alexandra Semyonova's paper as a resource and reference on dog social structure. The problem is most of the resources besides this one are locked away in journals that most people don't have access to, so I keep having to come back to it. Anyone got anything that I may have missed? I know a lot of you have some amazing resources out there. Care to share? :)
